The WONCA World Conference 2025 was held in Lisbon, Portugal, between 17–21 September 2025. EUROPREV was represented at the conference with several activities.
Before the conference, the WONCA Europe Council Meeting was held on September 17th. EUROPREV was represented by Serdar Öztora (Member-at-Large), Iva Petričušić (Delegate), and Carlos Martins (Observer). During this meeting, the presidency of WONCA Europe (WE) passed from Shlomo Vinker to Thomas Frese. The President-Elect, Honorary Secretary, and Treasurer were also elected, along with the Member-at-Large position. Serdar Öztora was elected as Member-at-Large on behalf of EUROPREV. EUROPREV’s report was presented to WE, and the upcoming Forum 2026 in Madrid was highlighted during the council.
On September 18th, a meeting was held with the participation of WE Executive Board members and representatives of WE networks. EUROPREV was represented by Serdar Öztora, Iva Petričušić, and Nina Gerdina. The annual activities report was presented, and EUROPREV’s opinion paper published in the European Journal of General Practice (EJGP) was particularly appreciated. Challenges faced by the networks were discussed, and it was agreed that collaboration would be strengthened to address financial and organizational issues. A working group was formed during the meeting, with Serdar Öztora joining as a member.
A hybrid EUROPREV Delegates Meeting was organized on September 18th at 18:00 with the participation of Serdar Öztora, Iva Petričušić, Jana Bendová, Sirkka Keinänen-Kiukaanniemi, Jorge Silva, Carlos Martins, Mateja Kokalj Kokot, Tom Axelrod, Laura Rodríguez-Benito, Wolfgang Schneider-Rathert, Andras Terebessy, Zoi Tsimtsiou, Carlos Brotons, Francisco Camarelles, and Nina Gerdina. During this meeting, EUROPREV’s ongoing activities were discussed. Preparations for the upcoming EUROPREV Forum 2026 were presented by Laura Rodríguez-Benito and opened for discussion regarding the scientific program. It was agreed that further discussions would take place through an online meeting in the following weeks. More details are given in a separate report of Europrev delegates meeting.
EUROPREV also contributed to the scientific program of the conference. A workshop titled “Soon We Will All Be Patients” was organized on Sunday at 9:00 AM by Tom Axelrod, Andras Terebessy, Carlos Brotons, and Serdar Öztora. Despite being scheduled on the final morning of the conference, the workshop attracted great interest and concluded successfully, with the participation of over 100 general practitioners from around the world. All participants were informed about and invited to the Madrid Forum for further discussions. Carlos Martins, the Portuguese Delegate and the former Chair of Europrev, also contributed to the workshop “New Information Technologies in Today's Portuguese National Health Service-Transforming healthcare delivery through digital innovation across Portugal.” in collaboration with the Rural Health Group.
In conclusion, the World Conference was a highly successful and collaborative event, and EUROPREV’s involvement was greatly appreciated by both participants and organizers.
